Tớ nghĩ nát óc mấy hôm ròng rã,
Được bản chương trình khá hay hay.
Nếu may ra, tớ trúng cử phen này
Xin cả quyết dúng tay làm việc.
-- Tớ sẽ yêu cầu lấp quách Hồ Gươm xanh biếc
Nước đục ngầu đã trái vệ sinh.
Lại làm mồ cho biết bay nữ tú, nam thanh
Đem kết liễu cái đời tình cay đắng...
Cái hố ấy, khi đã thành đất phẳng,
Tớ sẽ xin dựng một trường "Cao-đẳng Đăng-xinh."
Rước những ông du học tài tình,
Dạy những món văn minh nghệ thuật.
Cho dân ta biết thế nào là "sa-lếch-tôn," là
"Van-sờ," là "tăng-gô," là "phốc-tuốt."

Học lấy nghề nhảy nhót cho ngoan
Rún rẩy cho ăn nhịp cung đàn
Ấy là triệu chứng dân an, quốc thái...
Đã hãy vậy, cái chương vĩ đại.

Nhưng, muốn thi hành tất phải có nhiều xu.
Kinh tế này các bạn hẳn lo,
Nó sẽ bị xé, quăng sọt giấy.
Thưa rằng: tớ đã nghĩ, rồi đâu có đấy,
Có lo gì cái vật ấy mà lo.
Muốn xây cho công quỹ món tiền to.
Tớ sẽ xin nhà nước đặt cho thuế mới.
Bổ cho các đàn bà, con gái
Đóng công sưu hai đồng rưỡi đồng niên,
Chị em hô "nam nữ bình quyền"
Ắt hẳn được phỉ nguyền ao ước!
Thật là bản chương trình lợi dân, ích nước,
Tớ sẽ thi hành kỳ được mới nghe.
Đơn thỉnh cầu, tớ sẽ đặt thành vè,
Cho ai nấy dễ nghe và dễ nhớ,
Hỡi các cử tri! Nên bầu cho tớ,
Ơn tác thành, Tú Mỡ dám đâu quên.
Nếu phen nầy trúng cử nghị viên,
Hứa: Sẽ thết anh em chầu ... phở...

I've been racking my brain for quite a few days,
To come up with a platform that's rather fine.
If I'm lucky enough to get elected this round
Then let me roll up my sleeves and get to work.
-- I'll ask that the emerald green Sword Lake be filled in
Its slimy waters are unhygeinic

Let it happen, this great platform.

But, to carry it out we'll need alot of coin.
This economy apparently worries you friends
It will be torn, crumpled, and tossed into the trashcan
But sirs: I've thought, how could this happen?
Why worry about this thing?
Because if you want to fill the public coffers
I'll ask the government to levy a new tax.
Allot to all women and girls
The payment of an annual levy of two and a half piastres,
