Buồn ơi xa vắng mênh mông buồn!
Oh sadness, faraway, vast sadness!
Nhớ nhung làm chi nữa

Để mặc lệ sầu tuôn.
Don't bother with sad flowing tears.

Giờ thu đến trong muôn ngàn cây
When autumn arrived in thousands of trees
Với bao tình năm ấy vấn vương tơ lòng.
With so much feeling during those days of loving affection

Nay, bóng thu xưa đã mơ.
Now, autumn shadows of long ago have faded
Đâu rồi nhỉ?
Where are they?
Ngày thu ấy!
Those days of autumn!

Nay, lá thu rơi hững hờ quanh mình chỉ gợi buồn lây.
Now, autumn's leaves indifferently fall around me, only arousing sadness

Ngày vui xưa tới nay xa rồi.
Those happy days of long ago, up to now are far away.
Vấn vương làm chi nữa càng thêm bận chia phôi.
Why remain attached any more, there's more worry of separation

Đừng nên quá tiếc thương làm chi
Don't regret too much, what's the use?
Nhớ nhung càng thêm phí: kiếp hoa chóng tàn.
Longing is more of a waste: the flower's lot quickly fades.
